On Friday the 18th Jan, the 1st East Preston Scout
Hall was named after Marjorie "Akela" Bridger. The
evening started with the current Akela, Cheryl Stevens,
giving a brief history of the 55 years of service given by Mrs Bridger. The plaque and nameplate
were unveiled in her memory by her son David Bridger.
The evening was attended by more than 100 people including family, past and present Scouters, District Scouters and Group committee members. |
| On display during the evening
were hundreds of photos, the cub totem pole which now has
a permanent place in a display cabinet, records going
back over 70 years and Akela Bridger's Silver Acorn and
Medal of Merit. Some of the records included receipt books with sales including 2 woggles to Scouter Horace Biss in 1934 for 2½d each. The photos also spanned over 70 years including parades, camps and many activities and days out. The group would like to thank everyone for helping to make the night such a memorable occasion. |
